Full Moon in Capricorn: The Final Exam

On July 12th there is a Full Moon in Capricorn. Full Moons are high energy times and opportunities to reach an awareness. This particular full moon is somewhat of a watershed moment for 2014.

Basically a Full Moon is the point where the Sun and Moon are the furthest they can be from one another along the 360 degree circle. The seeds planted on the New Moon in Cancer back on June 28th have come to fruition. We see what we have been diligently working on over the last 14 days. In itself the FM is part of the monthly manifest ion cycle, yet there are times when the Lunation cycle (monthly cycle between the Sun and Moon) aligns with larger cycles, and this Full Moon is one of those times.

Throughout most of 2014 there has been a Grand Cardinal Square in the heavens. This Grand cross was formed by Pluto in Capricorn, Uranus in Aries, Jupiter in Cancer and Mars in Libra. We started the year with a New Moon on this Grand Cross setting the  tone for the year to be one of initiation into a new way of being, acting & relating.  In April this Grand Cross became very exact, acting much like the eye of a needle. We were required at that time, to let go of old ways of being, relating & acting that no longer served our evolution, if we in fact, wanted to evolve. Like all things in this dualistic world, evolution is a choice. For those who chose to move along the path there were some painful releases of long standing attachments. These attachments it seemed were that which we held most dear, and often felt like we couldn't do without.

We are now on the other side of that huge energetic let go, unencumbered yet still unsure. The energy of the Cardinal Cross is two steps forward, one step back, so we are finding our footing in this New Paradigm.

The Grand Cardinal Cross forms again with this Full Moon in Capricorn one last time, save for a short period of time in December of 2014. But for all intents and purposes this is the end of this particular long term configuration.

In the Full Moon chart the Sun and Moon are part of this Grand Cardinal Cross. Awareness around issues of family, parenting, gender and internal vs. external security are seen in the opposition of the Sun and Moon. The FM squares the nodal axis, North Node in Libra & South Node in Aries. The Nodes of the Moon point to the direction of our collective evolution. The North Node in Libra asks us to relate in a cooperative and balanced way, The South Node in Aries asks us to let go of old ways of acting, especially based on emotional insecurity and the war-like tendencies. Adding to this is the other actors in the Grand Cross play (save for Jupiter which is in the last degree of Cancer and not part of the party). Pluto is conjoined the Moon in Capricorn, Mars is conjoined the NN in Libra and Uranus is conjoin the SN in Aries. This is the final exam, can we relate in a new way? Can we do things differently? Can we take the internal changes we have undergone and translate them onto the larger cultural and world stage.

There is one more long term configuration to be considered that is part of this Full Moon chart and that is the Grand Water Trine that has been in the heavens since the Summer of 2013. In Astrology water is symbolic of the Soul, the emotional body and the feminine. In the patriarchal society we find ourselves in the attributes of Water are not recognized as valuable.  This can be easily seen in the treatment of women, the planet & the way our emotions are handled, more like a disease, than a natural process of being human.

Grand Trines are opportunities for healing or re-imprinting of traumas and abuses to our emotional bodies, our souls and the feminine. This can be seen all over the world from those school girls in Nigeria, to the Hobby Lobby decision by the supreme court of the Untied States, the feminine must be valued if we are to have any chance of balance and peace.

We are tired of the old ways, we have let go, reconfigured, re-orientated ourselves, done the internal work necessary, now it's time to be the change. We are ready. With the awareness we can garner at this Full Moon we can make this world a more loving place. It starts with each individual making different choices and eventually those in charge have no choice but to change. We have the power people, let's use it!

New Moon in Sagittarius: Calling All Starseeds!

New Moon in Sagittarius: Calling All Starseeds!

2012 has been a watershed year on many levels, starting with some very personal shifts at the beginning of the year, shifts in how we expended our energy, how we thought and what was truly important to us. In the late spring and early summer the shifts become more global and continued well into the late summer and fall. In less than a week we will find ourselves at the much toted, Winter Solstice of 2012: The End of the Mayan Long Count, our Sun’s movement through the plane of the Milky Way Galaxy, the end of the world as we know it, the birth of a new consciousness, Rapture, the Apocalypse, etc.…

Most of November was a journey through our deepest and darkest psychological underpinnings as the Sun and the inner planets moved through Scorpio. Always an intense time of year, made even more so because Saturn had just ingressed into Scorpio October 5th, where it will spend 2 ½ years. Saturn has an impeccable ability to make things concrete, so despite our best efforts our shadows came up quickly and in some very real ways. The New Moon in Scorpio on November 13th required us to let go of our baggage in order to move through the eye of the needle that is spiritual enlightenment.

Part of the Function of having our shadows uncovered is so that we can claim them, love them and thereby heal them. To quote an often used phrase, “If not us, then who?” and “If not now, then when?” And so the “Us” was tested in the “now”.

Once the Sun moved into Sagittarius, some of the emotional heaviness lifted, yet our shadow explorations where not over as both Mercury and Venus were still ensconced in Scorpio.

Sagittarius is about perspective, understanding, and belief. It is about having a guiding star to follow and the aspiration to get there (while Capricorn is about perspiration) This New Moon in Sagittarius occurs on December 13th at 3:42 AM EST at 22 degrees of Sagittarius.

Our beliefs have been through quite a testing period already and will continue to be a point of focus because for most of the month of December. Jupiter the planet of beliefs and the ruling planet of Sagittarius, has been in the cross-hairs of a Yod, or Finger of God configuration. Starting the month with Venus and Mars testing our beliefs around relationships and now, and for the rest of the month Pluto and Saturn asking for nothing less than complete death and rebirth of our beliefs!

In the Chart of the New Moon the New Moon itself is within 4+ degrees of an exact conjunction to the Galactic Center at around 27 degrees of Sagittarius.. It is through the emanations of the Galactic Center that we can connect with our Galactic heritage, our connection to the greatest of wholes. Sagittarius’ ruling planet Jupiter is in the aforementioned Yod with Saturn in Scorpio which requires us to make adjustments in our beliefs we are most emotionally attached to that keep us from growing and evolving. And Pluto in Capricorn requires us to adjust our mental body so that it can hold new realizations and awareness.

A semisextile (30 degree) aspect between the New Moon in Sag and Mars in Capricorn, requires us to begin to build a root structure and a for our soul’s evolution.

Venus just off it’s yearly conjunction to the North Node (The direction of our collective evolution) in Scorpio further stresses the formation of a new set of values about the resources we share and the emotional commitments we make to each other.

This seed time of new understandings is brought to a whole other level as Uranus, the planet of Sudden out of nowhere flashes of insight stations direct on the day of the new Moon. Just a few hours after the exact New Moon, Uranus starts its direct motion after being retrograde since July of 2012. In Aries our divine right to be who we were born to be is activated. Uranus’ station direct acts like a set of booster rockets sending us into the stratosphere.

This time in our shared history is one of great crisis and opportunity. For those of us who feel called to action to build a world we can all live in, this New Moon is the clarion call to move towards our most cherished desires. Our galactic heritage strengthens us, our shadow work clears the way to re-membering ourselves into wholeness and Uranus gives us the proverbial kick in the behind to bravely go where no one has gone before!

New Moon in Scorpio: Through the Eye of the Needle We Go!

New Moons are always powerful times, within each New Moon, regardless of the sign it occurs in, there is the energy of Aries. This is the energy of beginnings. There is a sense of rebirth, or bursting forth onto the scene. The sign the New Moon falls in colors what type of bursting forth we can expect.

As the sign of, among other things, Death and Rebirth, Scorpio can be a terrifying specter for us. It is in Scorpio that we face powers that are greater than us. With Scorpio there is a sense of loss of control. This can be seen when we look to the Scorpio/Taurus axis which rules sex. Taurus rules the physical side of sex and Scorpio the emotional side of it. For most of us, unless we have been sexually abused, we don’t have an issue with the physical side of the sexual act, it is the emotional side that we often have difficulty with. The requirement to open your emotions up to another person that can be downright terrifying. Yet without that side sex can become a soulless commodity. Why is opening our emotional selves up to each other so scary? Simply put, emotional vulnerability. We can loose control of our feelings and delve into the darkness of those desires that we don’t always understand, or even wish to understand, Our compulsions and obsessions are all in the cauldron that is Scorpio.

This is the first New Moon in Scorpio that occurs with Saturn also in Scorpio. Saturn moved into Scorpio on October 5th. Saturn is the planet that makes things real. Bringing things into manifestation. In Scorpio our deepest fears can rise up and become very real. Scorpio is also the sign of coming up against forces that are greater than ourselves. The scariest of these is Death itself and whether we actually face death ourselves or the mere idea of death, the trepidation is real.

Yet what is truly dying? In some cases, the physical body, yet for most of us, it is something less tangible than that. For some it is the emotions that no longer serve us, feelings of victimization, guilt, fear, loathing. For others it is thoughts we had about how things should be, for others relationships that have reached their usefulness. No matter what, this New Moon heralds a time of a deep cleansing let go.

This New Moon in Scorpio is also a Solar Eclipse due to the fact that it occurs close to the Nodes of the Moon. This Eclipse is a North Node Eclipse, meaning that this is a time of moving forward towards our collective evolution. Yet how do we move forward when we are being required to let go of so much?

Imagine if you will, going on a long trip that you have packed for very carefully. You have packed warm sweaters, boots, shoes, and sneakers. With much forethought you chose the shirts and pants so you could layer your clothes, and look smart. You even bought two new packs of underwear! You get to the gate and the TSA person says you cannot get on the plane with any luggage. There has been a new procedure that just came down from Homeland Security: No baggage! You can only go with the clothes on your back.

That is what this New Moon Solar Eclipse is about. Letting go of even the things you’re sure you are going to need. And it doesn’t matter how carefully you planned, NO BAGGAGE is the new rule!

We are moving through the eye of a needle at this time in our evolution. In the bible Jesus told his disciples that it is easier for a camel to move through an eye of a needle than a rich man. The rich man Christ speaks of is the person who is attached to things. The other part of that story is the part where the poor woman puts her last coins into the offering basket, knowing in her heart that it is in giving that we receive.

To say this time requires a leap of faith would be an understatement. Yet that is exactly what we are being asked to do. So don your favorite traveling clothes, unencumbered by your stuff and take that step toward the most awesome and exciting trip you could ever imagine. Knowing where you’re going is immaterial, it’s just about going

The New Moon in Virgo: Time to rollup our sleeves!

The Spring & Summer of 2011 have been seasons fraught with radical shifts; from the Arab Spring, to the magnitude 9.0 earthquake, tsunami & resultant nuclear meltdown in Japan; to the union busting shenanigans in Wisconsin & the manufactured crisis of the debt ceiling in Washington; to the riots in London & Palestine & the almost innumerable weather disasters; flood, tornados, wild fires, drought; the very fabric of our lives seems to be unraveling. Those of us lucky enough to be relatively unscathed, watch in wide-eyed disbelief, as one crisis after another drives home the issues we face in this interconnected global village of ours. We can no longer close our eyes to what is going on & yet the sheer magnitude & multitude of tragedy after tragedy overwhelm us. What can we do?   The last New Moon (July 30, 2011) in the sign of Leo, asked us to access our connection to higher realms (Higher Self, Higher Mind, Soul, Cosmic Mind, Great Spirit, Source Energy) to begin to consciously co-create our future. This latest New Moon at 5+ degrees of Virgo (August 28th-29th, 2011) is where the rubber meets the road.   Leo is about creative self-expression & Virgo is about the practical application of our creative spark. Virgo is a mutable earth sign, interactive & practical, its purpose, to a large extent, is to discern what fruits are worth moving forward with & what fruits are useless & need to be discarded. Separating the wheat from the chaff is a vital function of Virgo. Many depictions of the sign of Virgo is a young woman, presumably virginal (uncorrupted by relationship with the ‘other’, which occurs over the next 2 signs, Libra & Scorpio) holding a sheaf of wheat. It is Virgo’s function to harvest that which is useful.   In the New Moon (NM) chart, the ruler of Virgo, Mercury, is in the sign of creative self expression, Leo. Fresh off it’s retrograde phase (August 2nd- 26th) which began at 1 degree of Virgo & retrograded back into Leo where it spent the majority of it’s time, many of our inspired ideas, for those who chose to use the retrograde period as a time for introspection, rather than frustration, have been tested in the realm of the mind. Now with the Sun & Moon in Virgo these thoughts can be acted upon and made manifest. Not all of them will make the cut. Mercury in Leo is in aspect to both Uranus & Pluto. It is the square between these two outer planets that has been the engine of the winds of change that have been blowing so fiercely since 2010 & will continue to do so well into 2015. This particular aspect to Mercury from both Uranus & Pluto is called a sesquiquadrate or a sesqui-square (135 degree aspect). This relatively rare planetary configuration between three planets where two planets square (Uranus/Pluto) and simultaneously create a sesquiquadrate with a third planet (Mercury) can bring up the worse aspects of Mercury in a fire sign. According to Bil Tierney, in his seminal work on planetary aspects called Dynamics of Planetary Aspects “sesquiquadrates create an anxious effort to prove one’s significance through immature & self indulgent expression…an exaggerated self expression with the tendency to ignore or indirectly defy restraints imposed by the environment.” There will be lots of posturing by those who feel as if they have all the answers, so it looks like Virgo has her work cut out for her on this New Moon cycle.   To aid the potentially over-worked Virgo, there are many helpful aspects to this New Moon. The Sun/Moon are conjoined Venus in Virgo. Venus is the lesser benefic because of the beneficial influence she has on other planets she is in aspect to . Venus in Virgo is a shy position for the planet of Love, self-effacing, somewhat self-critical but always helpful. Venus in this sign is discriminating, which can act as a counter balance to the over-inflated Mercury in Leo.   The New Moon is also inconjunct (150 degree aspect) to Uranus in Aries. A mental adjustment is necessary. We are being nudged to break free from fear, anxiety, self-doubt, all negative Virgoan qualities. There is also an opposition to Chiron in Pisces which asks us to be aware of the highest aspirations of Virgo, service to others & service to humanity. The New Moon is also trine Pluto in Capricorn & Saturn in Taurus creating a grand earth trine. This gives us access to the transformative power and inner resources we may have not been aware we possess, but are none the less there. This energy can be utilized to fundamentally transform the structures of our lives, based on the resources available. This power can be used physically to release all the “things: we have been holding on to that bog us down.   This Virgo New Moon require us to roll up our sleeves and reminds us that we are the midwives of our creations, with discernment & humility we can collectively birth a New World.

New Moon in Leo: Stepping up to the Plate

New Moon in Leo

Although this latest New Moon, which occurs on July 30, 2011 at 2:40 PM EDT at 7+ degrees of Leo, is not nearly as energetic as the last two New Moons, June 1st NM in Gemini & July 1st NM in Cancer (both solar eclipses); this New Moon is no slouch. As I’ve stated in previous articles New Moons are about beginnings, a time to plant seeds for a new cycle of manifestation. Leo is the sign of creative self-expression & so here we have an opportunity to start a new cycle of creativity.

There is great support for innovation during this NM as the planet Uranus in Aries is in a flowing trine to the Leo Sun/Moon. Uranus is the super conscious mind, aka the Cosmic Mind. Aries is the sign of initiation by Fire/Spirit, so the energy is ripe to connect with your higher self to access spirit as to the direction and creation of whatever it is you choose to manifest in this latest cycle of manifestation. This is yet another reminder that we co-create our world. Where our attention goes, is where consciousness flows. It is of paramount importance that we focus on what we want to create, instead of what we don’t. If we put our energy into problems, we manifest problems. If we put our energy into solutions then it is solutions we harvest. We must become conscious of what we create.

As always there are also challenges in this chart, as well as help from higher realms. There is a last quarter square to the NM by Jupiter in Taurus. All squares are crisis points, and this last ¼ square is a crisis in consciousness. We are being challenged to examine society’s values when it comes to resources & money (Taurus). Jupiter is the expansion principle and is often overreaching and unduly optimistic, it can also be arrogant. In Taurus the sign of money, we may be questioning the arrogance of those who own or control most of our resources. An inconjunct aspect from Pluto in Capricorn to the NM further stresses this theme. This type of inconjunct requires an adjustment of our thinking patterns when it comes to our relationship with power. Leo is the center of it’s own universe, and yet societal structures must be taken into consideration when Capricorn is in the picture. What mental adjustments must be made so that we can create with a sense of responsibility (Capricorn) to society without loosing the joy (Leo) of creating? One way, is to create for the good of all from a heart centered place of joy. Leo rules the heart and so it must feel good in that place in order to survive & thrive despite the onslaught of the challenges that this period of time in the evolution of humanity will certainly present to us.

The energies unleashed during this NM cycle do not only affect individuals but countries as well. All countries have birth charts, the US was born on July 4, 1776. There are a number of charts that astrologer’s use as the natal chart of the US, I use the Sibley chart with a birth time of 5:13 PM in Philadelphia, PA.

This NM is conjunct the North Node of the chart of the US. The North Node in a chart is the point of destiny, the way forward. Leo is the sign of leadership as well as creativity on the positive pole and arrogance and narcissism on the negative side of the pole. Throughout it’s history, America has visited both poles! When we look at the North Node in a chart as the direction for the future we look to the more positive expression of the sign as the way forward, so creativity & leadership are what is being asked of this country by the fates. This leadership must be heart centered, because Leo rules the heart. What complicates the picture is that the North Node is in the 8th house of the US natal chart. The eighth house is traditionally called the house of sex, death & taxes naturally ruled by Scorpio. The issue of taxation is always a hot button issue for Americans, in fact our independence was stimulated by the sentiment that we were being taxed, but were not represented, Taxation without Representation was the key phrase we all learned in History class. Yet there is a sense of that brewing now as well, how many people feel burdened by taxes and feel as if they have no voice?

Yet it’s not all about Money, although it is certainly an important part of the scenario. The Eighth House is about sharing & issues of power & trust. There is certainly a lot of power out there, but very little trust or sharing. And the Eighth House is about Transformation and Healing. America’s Destiny lies in it’s ability to work together to find a sense of Emotional Security through the healing of our collective wounds from a heart centered (Leo)place. Only then can America move towards it’s higher destiny.

Another interesting connection of the New Moon to the chart of the US is that the South Node of the New Moon chart is conjunct the US’s Mars in Gemini. The South Node of a chart is the release point, it is what must be let go of so that we can move toward the promise of the North Node. The South Node also points to our talents and abilities. Mars in Gemini is the sign of the energetic thinker that jumps into action quickly if the fire of inspiration strikes. Mars in Gemini, talks the good talk but lacks follow through. It easily scatters it’s energy and can foster divisions because it is more interested in facts than testing those facts to create a cohesive point of view. So the South Node on the US Mars asks us to keep the positive aspects of Mars in Gemini but to let go of the negative tendencies.

Mars also symbolizes the military, and with the South Node of the NM chart conjoined the US’s Mars there is a need to let go of the old ways our military has operated.

The North Node of the NM chart, falls into the Second House of the US, our values and resources. The NM North Node is in the sign of Sagittarius. Sagittarius is about having a cohesive point of view based on experience. It is also the sign of Natural Law, and natural law is about fairness & sharing of resources. Coming to terms with how we are living and whether it is in harmony with natural law is the evolutionary imperative of this New Moon & of this time in history.

The divisiveness that is fostered by the power brokers and media keeps us from looking at the solutions to our problems from a heart centered place, and that is exactly what we need to do individually, as a country and as a race that shares this planet.

And lastly, Saturn, the Taskmaster, the Lord of Karma, in this New Moon chart is within 2 ½ degrees of the Natal Saturn in the US chart. The US has been going through it’s latest Saturn Return (the 8th one in it’s history) which began on December 3, 2010. Saturn returns are reaping times, we are coming to the end of a 30 year cycle that began on the country’s last Saturn return in1981, the Reagan Era. Deregulation has left us in quite a pickle.

Cycles of Saturn ask us to ’grow up’ and teach us how to most efficiently & productively work on the physical plane. We are being commanded (Saturn) to work within our resources. This country is on the verge of bankruptcy because we did not do so. And so this New Moon, with all it’s creative potential gives us an opportunity as individuals and as a country to ford a new path, connect with the Cosmic Mind, to lead from the heart, to pay attention to natural law & to come to terms with our resources & stimulate our resourcefulness.
