New Moon in Libra: Relating in a New Way!

On Friday, October 4th there is a New Moon in the sign of Libra. Libra is the sign of relationship. Mostly seen as a partnership sign, Libra is associated with marriage, business partnerships, and open enemies. There is a sense of social order in Libra and hence Libra rules the laws of society that keep things running smoothly. As we come up to this new Moon we look around us and see that nothing is really running smoothly.

At it’s most basic level, Libra is the balance of opposites. It is the nature of opposition which is about awareness. Awareness of both sides of an argument, awareness of the light and the dark, the male and the female, the inner self and the outer expression of self, the personality and the higher self. In it’s essence Libra is how we relate to the ourselves, others, and the world around us.

On October 1st the Sun in Leo made a square to Pluto in Capricorn. Squares are highly energetic and drive us to change. This square was a last ¼ square, considered a crisis in thought: We question societal norms and the “business as usual” way of going about the business of life. We begin to see that perhaps there is a better way. Two days later the Sun made an opposition to Uranus in Aries. The Sun in Libra illuminates the integrative principle of relationship while Uranus in Aries drives us toward our individual destiny. With this aspect we had an opportunity to become aware of how our relationships either support our unique destinies, or how they do not. Both these aspects occurred within the last quarter of the lunation cycle which by it’s nature is a releasing cycle.

The Sun’s square to Pluto and opposition to Uranus activated the Pluto Uranus first ¼ square that has been creating much of the instability we are experiencing. These squares, 7 in all over a 4 year period are the engines of change that is shifting the landscape forcing us to move and do things in a different way. The 4th exact square of these two transformational heavy weights will be exact on November 1. So as the month of October proceeds, the level of energetic intensity will rise.

It is within this energetic soil we have the New Moon in Libra at 12 degrees of Libra. The Sabian Symbol for this New Moon is “Miners are surfacing from a deep coal mine” and the keyword for this image is ‘Emergence’. The sense of moving from the darkness into the light is seen in this image. As if we have been living in hell but didn't know it until we could experience something else.

The chart of this New Moon has a grand cardinal square between the Sun/Moon in Libra, Uranus in Aries, Pluto in Capricorn and Jupiter and Lilith in Cancer. Uranus in Aries is about freedom to be who we are. Pluto in Capricorn is about the transformation of Power and the structure of society. Jupiter in Cancer is the expansion and understanding of our emotional nature as well as issues of family, women and children and nurturance issues. Lilith is the archetype of the disowned and demonized feminine. As I right this the government of the US is “shut down’ due to the dysfunctional relationship (Libra) between the two parties (Pluto) mainly due to the Tea Party Republicans (Uranus) who refuse to compromise (Libra) because of Obama care (Jupiter in Cancer). Despite the shut down, the military is running, the pentagon is open but WIC, the program that gives milk and other essentials to growing children and mothers is closed. We can see in this example where the old paradigm has it’s values.

New Moon’s are seed times and so it is the time to plant the seed to a new way of relating to ourselves, to others, to our family (and nation) and those running the show. We are moving into a new paradigm and everything is up for transformation. If we want to live in a ‘kinder and gentler’ world we must focus on that and how to create it. Living your life on your own terms with a sensitivity to how our actions effect others is vital at this time. We are really just fighting ourselves here. We are in this together and each and every person mirrors back to us that which we love and that which we would rather not look at.

We create this world and if we don‘t like what we see then let’s do it differently. It’s not just an airy fairy suggestion, but an evolutionary imperative.

Evolve or perish, the choice is ours.

New Moon in Sagittarius: Calling All Starseeds!

New Moon in Sagittarius: Calling All Starseeds!

2012 has been a watershed year on many levels, starting with some very personal shifts at the beginning of the year, shifts in how we expended our energy, how we thought and what was truly important to us. In the late spring and early summer the shifts become more global and continued well into the late summer and fall. In less than a week we will find ourselves at the much toted, Winter Solstice of 2012: The End of the Mayan Long Count, our Sun’s movement through the plane of the Milky Way Galaxy, the end of the world as we know it, the birth of a new consciousness, Rapture, the Apocalypse, etc.…

Most of November was a journey through our deepest and darkest psychological underpinnings as the Sun and the inner planets moved through Scorpio. Always an intense time of year, made even more so because Saturn had just ingressed into Scorpio October 5th, where it will spend 2 ½ years. Saturn has an impeccable ability to make things concrete, so despite our best efforts our shadows came up quickly and in some very real ways. The New Moon in Scorpio on November 13th required us to let go of our baggage in order to move through the eye of the needle that is spiritual enlightenment.

Part of the Function of having our shadows uncovered is so that we can claim them, love them and thereby heal them. To quote an often used phrase, “If not us, then who?” and “If not now, then when?” And so the “Us” was tested in the “now”.

Once the Sun moved into Sagittarius, some of the emotional heaviness lifted, yet our shadow explorations where not over as both Mercury and Venus were still ensconced in Scorpio.

Sagittarius is about perspective, understanding, and belief. It is about having a guiding star to follow and the aspiration to get there (while Capricorn is about perspiration) This New Moon in Sagittarius occurs on December 13th at 3:42 AM EST at 22 degrees of Sagittarius.

Our beliefs have been through quite a testing period already and will continue to be a point of focus because for most of the month of December. Jupiter the planet of beliefs and the ruling planet of Sagittarius, has been in the cross-hairs of a Yod, or Finger of God configuration. Starting the month with Venus and Mars testing our beliefs around relationships and now, and for the rest of the month Pluto and Saturn asking for nothing less than complete death and rebirth of our beliefs!

In the Chart of the New Moon the New Moon itself is within 4+ degrees of an exact conjunction to the Galactic Center at around 27 degrees of Sagittarius.. It is through the emanations of the Galactic Center that we can connect with our Galactic heritage, our connection to the greatest of wholes. Sagittarius’ ruling planet Jupiter is in the aforementioned Yod with Saturn in Scorpio which requires us to make adjustments in our beliefs we are most emotionally attached to that keep us from growing and evolving. And Pluto in Capricorn requires us to adjust our mental body so that it can hold new realizations and awareness.

A semisextile (30 degree) aspect between the New Moon in Sag and Mars in Capricorn, requires us to begin to build a root structure and a for our soul’s evolution.

Venus just off it’s yearly conjunction to the North Node (The direction of our collective evolution) in Scorpio further stresses the formation of a new set of values about the resources we share and the emotional commitments we make to each other.

This seed time of new understandings is brought to a whole other level as Uranus, the planet of Sudden out of nowhere flashes of insight stations direct on the day of the new Moon. Just a few hours after the exact New Moon, Uranus starts its direct motion after being retrograde since July of 2012. In Aries our divine right to be who we were born to be is activated. Uranus’ station direct acts like a set of booster rockets sending us into the stratosphere.

This time in our shared history is one of great crisis and opportunity. For those of us who feel called to action to build a world we can all live in, this New Moon is the clarion call to move towards our most cherished desires. Our galactic heritage strengthens us, our shadow work clears the way to re-membering ourselves into wholeness and Uranus gives us the proverbial kick in the behind to bravely go where no one has gone before!

The New Moon in Virgo: Time to rollup our sleeves!

The Spring & Summer of 2011 have been seasons fraught with radical shifts; from the Arab Spring, to the magnitude 9.0 earthquake, tsunami & resultant nuclear meltdown in Japan; to the union busting shenanigans in Wisconsin & the manufactured crisis of the debt ceiling in Washington; to the riots in London & Palestine & the almost innumerable weather disasters; flood, tornados, wild fires, drought; the very fabric of our lives seems to be unraveling. Those of us lucky enough to be relatively unscathed, watch in wide-eyed disbelief, as one crisis after another drives home the issues we face in this interconnected global village of ours. We can no longer close our eyes to what is going on & yet the sheer magnitude & multitude of tragedy after tragedy overwhelm us. What can we do?   The last New Moon (July 30, 2011) in the sign of Leo, asked us to access our connection to higher realms (Higher Self, Higher Mind, Soul, Cosmic Mind, Great Spirit, Source Energy) to begin to consciously co-create our future. This latest New Moon at 5+ degrees of Virgo (August 28th-29th, 2011) is where the rubber meets the road.   Leo is about creative self-expression & Virgo is about the practical application of our creative spark. Virgo is a mutable earth sign, interactive & practical, its purpose, to a large extent, is to discern what fruits are worth moving forward with & what fruits are useless & need to be discarded. Separating the wheat from the chaff is a vital function of Virgo. Many depictions of the sign of Virgo is a young woman, presumably virginal (uncorrupted by relationship with the ‘other’, which occurs over the next 2 signs, Libra & Scorpio) holding a sheaf of wheat. It is Virgo’s function to harvest that which is useful.   In the New Moon (NM) chart, the ruler of Virgo, Mercury, is in the sign of creative self expression, Leo. Fresh off it’s retrograde phase (August 2nd- 26th) which began at 1 degree of Virgo & retrograded back into Leo where it spent the majority of it’s time, many of our inspired ideas, for those who chose to use the retrograde period as a time for introspection, rather than frustration, have been tested in the realm of the mind. Now with the Sun & Moon in Virgo these thoughts can be acted upon and made manifest. Not all of them will make the cut. Mercury in Leo is in aspect to both Uranus & Pluto. It is the square between these two outer planets that has been the engine of the winds of change that have been blowing so fiercely since 2010 & will continue to do so well into 2015. This particular aspect to Mercury from both Uranus & Pluto is called a sesquiquadrate or a sesqui-square (135 degree aspect). This relatively rare planetary configuration between three planets where two planets square (Uranus/Pluto) and simultaneously create a sesquiquadrate with a third planet (Mercury) can bring up the worse aspects of Mercury in a fire sign. According to Bil Tierney, in his seminal work on planetary aspects called Dynamics of Planetary Aspects “sesquiquadrates create an anxious effort to prove one’s significance through immature & self indulgent expression…an exaggerated self expression with the tendency to ignore or indirectly defy restraints imposed by the environment.” There will be lots of posturing by those who feel as if they have all the answers, so it looks like Virgo has her work cut out for her on this New Moon cycle.   To aid the potentially over-worked Virgo, there are many helpful aspects to this New Moon. The Sun/Moon are conjoined Venus in Virgo. Venus is the lesser benefic because of the beneficial influence she has on other planets she is in aspect to . Venus in Virgo is a shy position for the planet of Love, self-effacing, somewhat self-critical but always helpful. Venus in this sign is discriminating, which can act as a counter balance to the over-inflated Mercury in Leo.   The New Moon is also inconjunct (150 degree aspect) to Uranus in Aries. A mental adjustment is necessary. We are being nudged to break free from fear, anxiety, self-doubt, all negative Virgoan qualities. There is also an opposition to Chiron in Pisces which asks us to be aware of the highest aspirations of Virgo, service to others & service to humanity. The New Moon is also trine Pluto in Capricorn & Saturn in Taurus creating a grand earth trine. This gives us access to the transformative power and inner resources we may have not been aware we possess, but are none the less there. This energy can be utilized to fundamentally transform the structures of our lives, based on the resources available. This power can be used physically to release all the “things: we have been holding on to that bog us down.   This Virgo New Moon require us to roll up our sleeves and reminds us that we are the midwives of our creations, with discernment & humility we can collectively birth a New World.
