New Moon in Capricorn

New Moon in Capricorn

Two days after the Winter Solstice, the time when the Sun makes it's entrance into the sign of Capricorn, there is a New Moon in the sign of Capricorn. New Moons are seed times, the start of a new lunar cycle. The Moon in astrology corresponds with our emotional body, ever shifting and responsive to our environment. It is our emotional bodies, our gut instincts that connects us to our physical reality. Our minds on the other hand can work independently from our physical and emotional bodies. Rationalization, denial, projection are all constructs of our mental body to explain away what our emotion and physical bodies tell us. Yet no matter how much we think something it will not change our physical and emotional reality.

Of all signs the sign of Capricorn is the sign of reality. The ruling planet of Capricorn is Saturn the Lord of Karma. Saturn is often seen as cold and harsh. Saturn is the bottom line, the black and white of reality. With Saturn you either work or perrish. Capricorns innately understand this and so what is often seen as pessimism is actually realism. The reality that ultimately we are respondible for our lives. It is by our own hand that we thrive or strive or barely survive. Whatever work you put into something is the amount of recompense you receive.

This New Moon in Capricorn is the seed of self-responsibility. The chart for the New Moon is similar to the chart for the Winter Solstice, which I discussed in my last article. The major aspects of that chart are worth repeating as it further stresses the theme of self-responsibility.

This New Moon is in a flowing trine aspect to the planet Jupiter in the sign of Taurus. Jupiter has been in Taurus since June of 2011. From June to August it
traveled through the first 10 degrees of Taurus and on the 30th of August it turned retrograde. Retrograde motion is about re-evalution, Jupiter is the planet of beleif and Taurus is the sign of our essential needs and our values. Since August 30th we have had the opportunity to review our values and beleifs
around our resources ,our money, and what it is we really need to survive. These are all Taurean themes. This New Moon occurs hours before Jupiter restarts its forward motion in Taurus. Which makes this New Moon the perfect opportunity to put our new found understanding around our resources into action. Living more simply, closer to our shared planet are ways in which we can begin a new relationship with what is truly of value.

The planet of transformation, Pluto is conjoined to the New Moon. It is through contacts with Pluto that we are faced with letting go of what no longer serves our soul's growth. In Capricorn Pluto has been busy bringing up what does not serve us in all those areas that are connected to Capricorn. Government, Banking, Corporations are some of the areas Pluto has been busy exposing the rot. In our individual lives Capricorn is associated with the conditions we place on ourselves. These conditions deal with what is 'expected' of us. Looking to an athority outside of ourselves is a very Capricorn way of dealing with figuring out what is the best course of action to take. Yet we are being shown that many of the places we would look to are in fact corrupt. And so we are being thrown back on ourselves. So what can we trust, who can we turn to? We can turn to ourselves. But what do we know? We know A LOT. This is where being connected to our emotional body comes into the picture. Our emotions, our heart, our gut, knows what is true for us. This New Moon is the start of coming to trust our inner compass.

The other major aspect of this New Moon is a square to Uranus in Aries. Much of the tumult of the past year can be directly attributed to Urans in Aries, the bolt out of the blue, driving us to act in instinctive ways. Things we thought we would never do, or ever think seem to be driving us forward with Uranus' revolutionary energy. The need to be free of unfair constraints and expectations makes our blood boil until people start to take to the streets. This is far from over. Over the rest of this decade this will become more and more commonplace, society is shifing, and the earth shifts right along with it as the newest rumbles of the earth are felt in Christchurch New Zealand just a day ago.

As the world shifts and changes, as society's shift and change we are being pushed to find our own way through the chaos. It is vital for us to truly come to terms with what is important to us as individuals and what is necessary for the survival of the greater whole. The systems that run the world are one by one being exposed for what they are. Those that serve the common good have a much better chance of not only surviving but thriving. Those that divide us will fall, ideology will not overcome people's need for food and shelter. The globalizaiton of the last 14 years has created a level playing field and exposing to us who truly runs things. We can no longer be blind, the veils are being removed from our eyes and now that we can see, we are being forced to become self-responsible. The blame game is over. It's time for us to put our collective big boy/girl pants on.
