Full Moon Lunar Eclipse in Aries: Action for Peace

On September 27th there is a Full Moon Lunar Eclipse in the sign of Aries. Aries is the sign associated with action. Full Moon ‘s are times of awareness and so we become of aware of the actions we must take in order to find inner peace (Sun in Libra). Eclipses act much like a wild card, you never quite know what to expect. This series of eclipses (The Solar Eclipse of September 13th and this Lunar eclipse) are part of the North Node eclipse season. North Node eclipses ask us to move forward into an unknown future. It takes lots of courage and quite a bit of faith to do so. Although as the old saying goes, ‘those who are ready step forward, those who are not are shoved. ‘ One way of another we will all be moving forward ready or not.

Relationship is front and center in at this time. This has been the case since around 2010 when Saturn moved into Libra, while Pluto was in Capricorn and Uranus in Aries starting an evolutionary process that we are still in. We have had all our relationships tested through Saturn’s journey through Libra (2010-2012) and Scorpio (2012-2015). Both Libra and Scorpio are relationship signs, in Libra it is the mental construct of relationship and in Scorpio it is the nitty-gritty of relationship, sex, power, intimacy, shared resources. Who hasn’t been challenged at this time? Yet the most important relationship has been our relationship to ourselves. We have had the opportunity to look ourselves in the eye, evaluate our inner strength, come face to face with our shadow and learn to love ourselves unconditionally.

We are all at different stages of this process that will continue well into the next decade. All of this happening while the old structures of our reality are collapsing (Pluto Capricorn 2008- 2024) We are truly moving into a new Paradigm. This will take lots of focus, lots of work and a lot of forgiveness. We cannot rest on our laurels, building a new Earth takes effort.

The world is at a tipping point, there will be chaos in some places and a higher order in others. If we can do what it necessary in our own lives to foster forward motion that is balanced and loving we can effect the world at large. In point of fact that may be the only way we can.

New Moon Solar Eclipse in Virgo: Heal and Be Healed

Twice a year we have eclipse season. This occurs when the Sun is at either the North Node of the Moon or the South Node of the Moon. The lunar nodes are the orbital nodes of the Moon, that is, the points where the orbit of the Moon crosses the ecliptic. The ascending (North) node is where the moon crosses from south of the ecliptic to north of the ecliptic. The descending (South) node is where it crosses from north of the ecliptic to south of the ecliptic.

These eclipse ‘seasons’ occur six months apart. Back in March we had the first eclipse season of the year and now starting with this New Moon Solar Eclipse in Virgo we start the next eclipse season. Eclipses at the South Node of the Moon (the March Eclipses) require us to release outworn ways of reacting and responding to life. Eclipses of the North Node (September Eclipses) require us to move forward into an unknown future.

Both letting go of the old and moving forward without really seeing where we are going are certainly challenging, yet we are in the midst of such a transformational time that for some this is just another step in a process of seemingly endless journey of constant change.

The New Moon in Virgo points us in the direction of discernment and service. Virgo is a Mutable Earth Sign, making it both practical and changeable. We are willing to fix things in Virgo, so that whatever we are focusing on becomes more efficient. Virgo is also associated with health. So this New Moon is a great time to start a new health regime. Wherever this eclipse falls in your natal chart will depend on where in your life you will experience this new direction.

Virgo can also the archetype associated with crisis. Whether it be a health crisis, or a work crisis, or a relationship crisis, whatever area of life we have been ignoring is fertile ground for the crisis to occur. You can be proactive in this regard, yet rest assured if you choose to continue to ignore the ‘elephant in the room’ you will certainly suffer the consequences.

The chart for the New Moon gives us a glimpse of some of the more significant challenges and opportunities of the very potent time. The New Moon is opposite Chiron in Pisces. This oppositions brings awareness to and gives us perspective on the Chironic theme of wounding. In mythology Chiron was a great healer/teacher that was accidentally injured by a poison arrow. Because he was part divine (his Father was Zeus) he was immortal so the wound he received could not kill him, it only made him suffer. Eventually he was granted release from his body and he took his place in the heavens as the great Archer of Sagittarius.

Within Chiron we see the wound, yet within Chiron we also have the cure. The wound of Chiron in Pisces is the wound of separation from Source itself. Yet separation is an illusion. We are all part of the same whole, yet we yearn to be return to “heaven’ so not to suffer the slings and arrows of physical incarnation. One of the greatest paths to healing is through the healing of others. As others are simply a reflection of ourselves. Take steps to help one another on both physical levels (Virgo) and spiritual (Pisces) levels. The Virgo/Pisces axis is that axis of Healing. Next month the transiting nodes will be moving into Virgo(NN)/Pisces(SN) after 19 months in Libra(NN)/Aries(SN). So we have lots of time to work with this energy. Not to mention that Jupiter is now in Virgo for the next year. Jupiter expands any archetype it touches so opportunities of healing come hand in hand with crisis.

This New Moon is also in a very close aspect to Uranus in Aries. Uranian energy is erratic, chaos producing, yet ultimately freeing. Uranus is the planet that frees us from the known, and opens us up to a broader more transpersonal reality. Seen as the higher octave of Mercury, Uranus breaks us from the outworn structures of reality while giving us access to our Higher Selves. The aspect between the New Moon and Uranus is one of irritation. Uranus in Aries wants ultimate freedom, yet the New Moon in Virgo reminds us that adjustments must be made in order for us to work together.

As we look around we see much chaos and suffering, it would be easy to get overwhelmed, yet Virgo is the sign of step by step, take care of one thing at a time. Allow yourself a few mistakes, for as we all know we learn most profoundly from our mistakes. Avoid perfectionism, the shadow side of Virgo, and no matter what keep on, keeping on. We can move through these uncharted seas, with love in our heart and a well thought out plan!

New Moon in Leo: Let Love and Compassion Reign

On August 14th we have a New Moon in the sign of Leo. As a archetype Leo is about self-awareness, self-expression and creativity. Dramatic; well coiffed and regal, Leo is not easily ignored. As with all the fire signs, Leo has a sense of special destiny and so with this New Moon we are being required to become self-conscious of our own special destiny.

A supportive trine to Uranus in Aries ups the ante on the already potent energy of this New Moon. Uranus is the rule breaker, the genius, and the unknown factor in this equation. All that can be said when Uranus is in the picture is to expect the unexpected. So even the self aware Leo in us can be surprised just how this New Moon will change our lives.

In a close conjunction to the New Moon we have Venus retrograde in Leo. Venus is moving closer to her inferior conjunction to the Sun (August 15th). The planet Venus cannot be seen in the evening or morning sky because she is so close to the Sun. Ancient cultures deemed this time as Venus’ journey through the Underworld. While in the Underworld she sheds all she has and is, taking off layers of herself until she is nothing but bones. Once she conjoins the Sun she starts to put on new ‘clothes’ in her journey out of the underworld to become at this time, the morning star. So when this New Moon occurs she is truly ‘bare bones’. And so we have the opportunity with this New Moon to evaluate the structure or our values, our relationship to self and our relationship to others.

The closest aspect to the New Moon by far is an inconjunct to Chiron in Pisces. Inconjuncts are crisis producing aspects. The key word of an inconjunct is irritating. Chiron is the archetype of ‘the wound that will no heal’ and in Pisces the wound is the most ancient and all encompassing wound, the wound of separation from source. Leo is the sign of personal, conditional love and Pisces is the sign of unconditional love. It will take a mental adjustment on our part to allow these two kinds of love to function in our lives simultaneously. Leo wants to be adored, and when they are not, often they cut off from the offender. Yet this New Moon requires us to foster a sense of compassion for all life, even those life forms that piss us off!

We are truly at a time when forgiveness, transcendence, and compassion are required. Let this New Moon plant those seeds of Love in your heart, free of the layers of who we think we’re suppose to be, and safe in the knowledge that we are who we were born to be.

Full Moon in Aquarius: The Common Good

On July 31st we will have the second Full Moon in July. The first was the Full Moon of Capricorn that occurred on July 1st. This makes this Full Moon a Blue Moon. Blue Moon's have no real astrological significance nor are they all that rare. Yet having two Full Moons in a month that is for the most part a Cancer Birthday Month, raises the emotional stakes a bit. Not that we need the stakes raised. Even without this second Full Moon, July has proven to be quite emotional.

Part of the reason for that is that Mars is moving in concert with the Sun. This occurs on alternating years, next year it will be moving in opposition to the Sun. Mars always bring a heightened sense of immediacy to any situation. The need to act is strong and with Mars in Cancer for the entire month of July, and much of our action comes from a need to feel secure. Yet security is an illusion. It has been particularly challenging in the US, a Cancer Country, as old and new fears rise up from the collective unconscious and manifest out in the world as acts of fearful aggression. It's as if our greatest fears are being made manifest.

Saturn, the planet of as you sow, so shall you reap is in Scorpio for one last gasp, before it leaves and goes back into Sagittarius. Saturn won't be in Scorpio for another 29 years, so Scorpionic issues are bubbling up from the depths of our unconscious. Scorpio is a water sign, just like Cancer, so emotions are high. And we are not very adept at coming to terms with those emotions. Mainly due to the fact that we have been conditioned to stuff them back down. Well with Saturn in Scorpio and Pluto in Capricorn stuffing is no longer an option, it's as if the septic tank of our unconscious can no longer hold the 'shit', and it's time to let it flow. A graphic and perhaps gross metaphor, yet no less apt.

With our unconscious being made conscious, it is time to take responsibility for our feelings. Pluto, which has been in Capricorn since 2008 is mercilessly exposing the shadow of the 'power over' paradigm. The most powerful among us are consolidating their power more and more, but rest assured that this will not work. Ultimately it will implode as Natural Law will cause the pendulum to shift. And when I say take responsibility for our feelings, I don't mean taking the blame for them. Responsibility is about our ability to respond to our feelings. To take the necessary actions to feel them and heal them. This is what this time is about. The 'Power Over' Paradigm is coming to an end, and there are a lot of bodies in the streets, both metaphorically and actually.

What we may notice as we feel our feelings and take actions to heal them, is that we are not alone in our pain and suffering. In fact if we look over 'enemy lines' we will find that those we identify as 'them' (as opposed to us) are in just as much pain. What separates us is how we react and respond to that pain. Yet it's all coming up to ultimately heal it.

This Full Moon is in Aquarius, the sign associated with the common good. The Sun, which is opposite the Moon is in Leo, a very powerful position for the Sun, as the Sun is the ruling planet of Leo. Oppositions (the aspect or geometrical relationship that creates the Full Moon) are about awareness. It is a point in time when we have the broadest picture along an axis. The Leo/Aquarius Axis in Astrology is know as the Axis of Love. It is the path between personal subjective love, and impersonal objective love.

We all have beating hearts (Leo) that move life giving blood through the circulatory system (Aquarius) to oxygenate and feed all the cells of our bodies. This metaphor can be applied to the Body of Humanity, as our collective heart symbolized by Leo pumps life affirming Love to all parts of the Humanity, through the connection we have with others (Aquarius). Those connections are the lines of energy that connect us to one another. Our bodies may separate us, our minds definitely separate us, but our feelings are what make us human and it is our feelings that ultimately connect us.

It is said that there are only two emotions, Love or Fear. This full Moon reminds us that Love is the answer. We can create a New Paradigm based on Love, the most potent force know in our world. We each have special talents and gifts (Leo), it's time to share them with each other (Aquarius) and we will come through this Gateway stronger and more whole.

New Moon in Cancer: Planting the Seeds for our Survival

On July 15th there is a New Moon in the sign of Cancer. This NM occurs at 24 degrees of Cancer and is in a square to Uranus in Aries. Cancer is generally a gentle and sensitive sign, yet the energetic soil this New Moon is being planted in is anything but gentle. Uranus in Aries pushes us to move forward and evolve. Evolution means change and although the sign of Cancer is always dealing with the shifting sands of change it’s not necessarily a comfortable situation for the Sun or Moon in Cancer. Add to this an opposition to Pluto which brings up issues of power and powerlessness the sense of being at the mercy of powers greater than ourselves is strong.

We find ourselves in the midst of great cultural, personal, planetary and energetic shifts. Pluto also makes an opposition to Mercury and Mars both in Cancer, illuminating how we think and act and how that effects our sense of power or powerlessness. In fact, the exact opposition of Pluto to Mars and Pluto to Mercury occur just prior to the New Moon today. Both these oppositions are points of awareness and the halfway point of two personal and important evolutionary cycles.

Mars’ opposition to Pluto is part of a two year cycle that began back on November 11, 2014 (Yes 11: 11, for those who understand the symbolism) at the 12th degree of Capricorn. The Sabian Symbol for that degree of Capricorn talks about the need to explore the Natural Law. Because we are dealing with Pluto, the desires of the Soul and Mars our conscious desires, our Soul, and the evolution of our collective Soul is pointing to the Power of Nature. We could continue to see Nature creating all sort of ‘problems’ for us. Yet what is the real problem? Could it be the actions we take that are antithetical to Natural Law? Nature will always win.

The opposition of Pluto to Mercury is also part of a cycle, this one a yearly cycle. The Soul, Pluto conjoined Mercury on December 25, 2014 at 13 degrees of Capricorn. The Sabian Symbol for this degree points to our will to transcend our subjective reality in the quest for ultimate truth. The truth of the matter is seems is that we must live our lives differently. More in alignment with Natural Law. Live our lives with more respect for our planet, for each other and to let survival (An issue close to Cancer’s heart) trump profit (Pluto in Capricorn).

We can see rather starkly, especially in America and Europe how we are being held hostage by private corporations and private banks, that have little to no oversight. The passing of the TPP Trade Bill is an example of the Power of Corporations over the sovereignty of countries and people’s desire and right I may add, to keep the earth from being raped and befouled.

It is time to speak to power and act to power, yet not in the old ways. Anger and vitriol only foster more anger and vitriol. It is more about how we can work together to make our world a gentler and more loving place. It starts with refusing to keep our difference front and center and instead concentrate on what makes us the same. We live on the same planet, drink the same water, breath the same air, and basically want the same things for those we love; food, shelter, security and a chance at a peaceful life.

The Sabian Symbol for 24 degrees of Cancer talks about how complex interpersonal relationships can be and yet the need for Interdependence is tantamount to our survival and ultimate ability to thrive. The power we have working together for the common good is Herculean. Those who are satisfied with the status quo, do not want you to know that. It is time to take responsibility for our own destinies. The time is Now so let’s get going!

Full Moon in Capricorn: Another Portal of Initiation is Open

On July 1st there is a Full Moon in the Sign of Capricorn. Full Moons are powerful times, when we become aware of something. Some Full Moons are simpler than others, we are made aware of something and we choose from that point what we are going to do about it. The Sun Moon are personal planets, so it is generally a personal decision, yet this Full Moon is different. Each personal decision we make has long reaching consequence. The main reason for that is that more and more people are awake or awakening. So that what was once simply a personal choice now holds more influence on the larger picture.

The Sun is in Cancer and the Moon is in Capricorn. This is the axis of security, emotional security and physical security. It is also related to the Archetypes of Mother (Cancer) and Father (Capricorn), as well as gender identity. Yet the Sun and Moon are not the only players in this particular act. Mars in Cancer is conjunct the Sun, and Pluto in Capricorn is conjunct the Moon, that means that our conscious and unconscious desires are part of the picture as well. Pluto, our unconscious desires, conjunct the Moon, our subconscious, in the sign of repression, Capricorn, is a powerful mix and the Full Moon’s bring light to these generally hidden aspects of ourselves. During this Full Moon long held suppressed emotions come to the surface so that we can be made aware of them. The Sun in Cancer and Mars in Cancer both illuminates and gives us clues as to what conscious actions we must take. These actions need to be nurturing in nature. Yet that is still not the whole story.

This Full Moon is actually square it’s own nodes. The nodes of the Moon are powerful points along the elliptic, that point us to the direction of our collective evolution, while also pointing out what must be released from the past. The Nodes are in Libra (North Node) and Aries (South Node). The North Node is the direction forward and the South Node what we are required to let go. With the South Node being in the sign of Aries, we must let go of war-like tendencies, the sense that it is either us or them, any sense of isolation, and coming from a place of primal fear. That’s a tall order, especially at this time when there seems to be so much to be fearful about. Yet if we don’t see, we can’t change it. If it stays buried how would we know. In part much of the tumult we see and experience is a release of all our deepest survival fears brought to the surface to deal with. We are co-creative remember, we are creating the reality we find ourselves in!

So what do we do? Well we look to the North Node in Libra. Libra is about dialogue, and fairness, and balance, and seeing both sides of a situation. So it’s important for us to talk to each other, to open the lines of communication, to see both sides and in that illuminate what are the intentions of the other, and how that is a reflection of a part of us that may still be ‘in fear’. Fostering a sense of compassion for each other, while holding each other to a level of responsibility, will help. Finding a way to move toward the center of things, instead of hanging out at the extremes makes this work easier.

Libra is the sign of the scales, and it is very difficult to balance when we are only working from the ends. As any child in the playground knows, that it is easier to keep balanced on the seesaw if you sit closer to the center. And so let us sit closer to the center. Avoid the extremes. This takes some objectivity, another gift of Libra.

And we are not in this alone. There is a grand fire trine in the chart for this Full Moon. Uranus in Aries, Venus and Jupiter in Leo and Pallas Athene in Sagittarius brings messages from our higher spiritual selves. We are co-creative through our I AM presence (Uranus in Aries) as we expand (Jupiter) and value (Venus) ourselves, from a heart centered space (Leo) while finding the creative answers (Pallas) by connecting to Natural Laws and the Laws of Nature (Sagittarius). Our connection to our own divinity, our own hearts and the heart of nature will move us through this very tense time. We are moving through yet another portal of initiation. These are powerful times and intention is everything. Intend Love and it is Love you will bring forth!
