Full Moon in Capricorn: The Family of Man/Woman

Just 3 days after the Sun’s ingress into Cancer on the Summer Solstice in the Northern Hemisphere and the Winter Solstice in the Southern Hemisphere, there is a Full Moon in the sign of Capricorn. Full Moon’s are always times awareness, and in the signs of Cancer (Sun) and Capricorn (Moon) we are brought to an awareness of our emotions and the practical ways in which we can come to understand them.

When the Moon is in Capricorn we can have a cool detachment, which comes in handy at times, especially when the Sun, the manner in which we integrate experience is in the emotional sign of Cancer. And there are other emotional energies besides the Sun, as both Mercury and Venus are in Cancer, Saturn and the North Node are in Scorpio and Neptune and Chiron are in Pisces. That’s a lot of water! And a lot of feelings!

This Full Moon across the axis of Cancer and Capricorn can also bring up family dynamics, especially those that are wounding in nature. We are in a time when the opportunity to feel our feelings, evaluate them, heal them, and transcend them is available to us. The Sun in Cancer is part of a Grand Water Trine with Neptune in Pisces and Saturn in Scorpio. The addition of the Capricorn Moon to this mix creates what astrologers call a kite formation. The Moon, while opposing the Sun also makes opportunistic sextiles with Saturn and Neptune. Sextiles are aspects that stimulate communication and talking about our feelings help us to get the perspective we need. Without the Moon creating the opposition to the Sun and the sextiles to Saturn and Neptune, we could just get stuck in a continuous loop of feeling and feeling and feeling without a depressurization valve. The Capricorn Moon is just that, and because it’s in earth it is very grounding and practical.

Jupiter is in the last degrees of Gemini conjoined the Sun in Cancer, this further stresses the idea of family, especially siblings. Often times family dynamics between siblings is carried well into adulthood, wreaking havoc and creating much pain in their wake. It is time to resolve these dynamics. If someone refuses to ‘let it go’ it is time to bless them and leave them to their own devices. Other people, especially those closest to us, are in our life to point out the buttons we have. If we remove the buttons, then they have nothing more to push and nothing more to teach us. Self-healing is the way to World-Healing, and that is certainly something that is timely.

Lastly, a little know asteroid named Lilith is also part of this Full Moon picture. Lilith is in within a degree of exactitude of the Sun. Lilith represents the disenfranchised feminine and the rage that issues from being in that position. One myth surrounding Lilith was that she was the first wife of Adam, but refused to take a subordinate position to him, so she was cast aside and turned into a demon.

So there is some righteous anger that can certainly erupt during this Full Moon.

The Aquarian Age is one in which we foster a balance between the Masculine and the Feminine. We must reclaim the power of the Feminine allowing it to take it’s proper place beside the Masculine. This is the work of the New World we find ourselves in. Loving the Mother and Father equally. And this Full Moon is the perfect time to come to this awareness.

Summer Solstice 2013: Water, water, everywhere!

After a long and treacherous Winter and Spring, Summer comes like a balm to sooth and heal our wounds. And although we will not be without our challenges, there is a decidedly different tone to this 1/4 of the year of 2013. For those of us lucky enough to be living where bombs are not flying over head, the summer reminds us of what is most important. In those areas of the world where they are
not so lucky, there is a fight for survival at the most basic levels.

The Summer in the Northern Hemisphere is heralded by the Sun's movement into the sign of Cancer. Cancer is a deeply emotional archetype. It is said in esoteric astrology that the sign of Cancer is the way into incarnation while Capricorn, is the way out. Looking at some of the images associated with those signs give us a clue to this as Cancer is the sign of Mother Ocean and Capricorn, Father Time.

When the Sun moves into Cancer, the path through each degree has been already trod by both Mercury and Venus, which at the time of the Solstice are just out of an exact conjunction at 22 degrees of Cancer. The planet of the Heart (Venus) and the Planet of the Mind (Mercury) are on the same page in the sign of emotional security and family. So we know in our heart and minds what our needs are around this security. And this does not just mean our own family or clan,
but the family of Man/Woman as well.

Besides the already trodden path of Cancer by Venus and Mercury, the Sun also meets up with two planets that are waiting to welcome the Sun into their little party. And those planets are Saturn in Scorpio and Neptune in Pisces, which are in a flowing trine to each other. This creates a Grand Water Trine between the Sun, Saturn and Neptune. The Sun brings illumination to the necessity for healing and forgiveness.

Yet, as always, there is more to this story. We cannot forget that the sign of Cancer is part of the Cardinal Cross (Aries, Cancer, Libra & Capricorn). And as such any planet that moves into Cancer, moves into the cross hairs of the Pluto, Uranus first quarter square, which has been the driving force of the massive cultural shifts we find ourselves in.

So as the Sun moves into Cancer and later when both Jupiter, the planet of expansion, and Mars, the planet of aggression also move into Cancer, each one in turn will become part of a Grand Water Trine and a Cardinal T-square. This creates a real force to heal and dissolve structures that are impeding our evolution. None of this really bodes well for emotional security however.

Ultimately the lesson of Cancer is that emotional security resides within us, no matter the circumstances we see around us. Fostering a sense of emotional self-reliance is the real lesson of Cancer. There will be lots of challenges and lots of opportunity to feel and heal and move on.

May your summer be blessed with love and joy, even if we find the tears flowing. After all, to quote one of my favorite Goddess songs, "we all come from the Goddess and unto her we shall return, like a drop of rain, flowing to the ocean....

Many blessings!

New Moon in Gemini: Say what you need to say...

2013 has certainly been a transformational year so far, as after what seems like an interminable period of one shock after another of incidents beyond our control, we have come to a point when we the people actually get to say what we want to say.

The New Moon in Gemini, that occurs on Saturday, June 8th, is our opportunity to plant the seed to think differently, communicate
differently and interact differently.

There are many planetary interactions that have aided us in reformulating our ideas and our belief systems. Jupiter has been in Gemini for almost a year now. Jupiter is the planet of expansion, and while in Gemini, there has been an expansion of ideas as well as more information available than ever before. And despite the best efforts of those in charge who wish to keep things under wraps, information has a way of seeping out onto the world stage. Due to the inter connectivity we now have available, almost nothing can be kept from us. For those who want to keep us in the dark, they're only weapon left is one of distraction and diversion. And so it behooves us to use our gut instincts to evaluate each piece of information that comes our way to determine if it rings true to us or not.

Jupiter's journey through Gemini has not been an easy ride, Jupiter was in the cross hairs of a Yod formation in December of 2012 and again in March of 2013. This formation forced us to look at the ideas we had based our beliefs upon to determine what was still valid and what was not.

The other aspect that has been pivotal in our view of reality and how we think about things is the ongoing Uranus Pluto square. This highly active and transformational aspect between Uranus The Great Awakener and Pluto the Great Destroyer/Creator is creating a huge cultural shift .The ideas seeded back in the 60's when these two powerhouses were conjoined in Virgo (1965-66) are re-emerging as these two planets reach their 90 degree relationship to each other. This is a waxing or building square and we are at the point were we must build the structures for those seed thoughts to manifest. There is a sense of life and death to these changes as the family of man/woman is at an evolutionary mandate that requires us to do things differently, lest we destroy ourselves.

So this is the back drop of this New Moon which occurs at 19 degrees of Gemini. Looking at the chart for this New Moon we see 4 planets in Gemini, the Sun, Moon, Mars and Jupiter. Although Mars is out of orb of a conjunction, Jupiter is not, telling us that all these hard won reformulated ideas are ready to be unveiled. It is of utmost importance that what needs to be said. is said.

Gemini's ruling planet, Mercury is in Cancer and part of a Cardinal T-square with Pluto and Uranus. It is time to speak up to those in power, symbolized by Pluto in Capricorn. This does not only mean governmental powers, but anyone who 'lords over' us in any and all situations. Power struggles are not only fought in the halls of Congress, or on the streets of Syria, but in our lives everyday, in subtle and not so subtle ways. Because of the Cancer/Capricorn axis these two planets cross, there is also a connection to our experience with Mother/Father and how patterns that we were indoctrinated into as children continue to dominate our lives. Ultimately we are here to be the authority figures in our own lives, based on a healthy relationship with our inner compass aka our instincts or inner knowing. The fact that Pluto is
Retrograde, gives us more influence to face the powerful and have them actually
hear us.

The other part of this T-square is Uranus in Aries making a first 1/4 square to Mercury. New ideas that were seeded in our consciousness back on April 20th when Mercury conjoined Uranus at 10 degrees of Aries, are seeking structures to be built to support our new transformational ideas.

It is on this New Moon that our voice need to be heard and our sleeves rolled up in order to build the structures that will sustain our need for self-governance and self-actualization.

Gemini is also the sign of youth, and it is important for us not to just be open to what the youth have to say, but for the youth to be willing to participate in the building of our common future.

The fires of revolution will burn bright this summer. Knowing what resonates in your own heart and mind will guide you to your destiny. It will be a bumpy ride, yet it is a ride well worth taking.

Full Moon in Sagittarius: Letting Go Just a Little More!

The Full Moon in Sagittarius that occurs on April 25, 2013 at 12:25 AM EDT, is the last of three eclipses of this eclipse season. As I have said in my two previous articles, Full Moon in Scorpio: Facing the
Shadow, and The New Moon in Taurus: Getting down to basics these are South Node Eclipses. The South Node of the Moon is the point of release and so overriding theme with these three eclipses is letting go.

Letting go is never easy, not for anyone, yet with the transiting nodes in Scorpio (North Node) and Taurus (South Node) requires us todo just that in order to evolve.

The Scorpio/Taurus axis is the axis of life and death, survival and annihilation, self-reliance and sharing, sex for procreation and sex as the path to intimacy. There is a lot of power in the axis, and so issues of power and powerlessness bombard our reality.

The escape of one woman ad the freeing of two other women in Cleveland, from ten years of brutality, by a man who kidnapped and enslaved them in his home, is the type of stories we see with these nodes. In a society that does not value the feminine we see this type of thing too often. The fact that the perpetrator had a long history of domestic spousal abuse predisposes him to be able to perpetrate such atrocities on, for all intents and purposes, children.

We can look at this incident and say," Well this is just an aberrancy especially in a civilized first world country." Yet the objectification of woman by the culture, the patriarchal religions relegating woman to baby machines who have no right to there own body, all contribute to a sense of powerlessness for woman and the necessity of management of women by men. As someone who got most of her information about being female from reading Ms. Magazine and Cosmopolitan in the 70's, this type of sensibility should have been annihilated thirty years ago. But alas, misogyny is alive and well and to a at times, glorified in the culture.

This Full Moon in Sagittarius brings to our awareness what we believe to be true. Issues of religion can take center stage as can the basis of our beliefs. Because this Full Moon is also an eclipse of the South node we need to look a the issues connected to Taurus and to Venus, the ruling planet of Taurus. Survival, resources, self-worth, relationship to woman all need to evaluated. What ideas, beliefs, habits and relationship dynamics keep us stuck in an unending cycle of self-abuse or abuse of any kind.

Sagittarius also deals with natural law and our relationship to the planet. can we see our objectification and commodification of women in this society reflected in the way we treat the planet? As if Mother Earth is just a rock full of resources that we get to exploit and pollute, so the top 1% can get rich?

The Gemini/Sagittarius axis, which this Full Moon crosses (Sun in Gemini opposite the Moon in Sagittarius) is the axis of the two sides of the brain, the left logical brain (Gemini) and the right intuitive brain (Sagittarius). This full Moon asks us to get in touch with our intuitive facilities and our creative left brain, which incidentally is the feminine side of the brain.

A square from Neptune to the Sun and Moon creates a t-square formation. This high energy planetary pattern creates a sense of being at a cross roads in which we are driven to choose a direction. The t-square being in mutable signs stresses the idea of this being a mental issue, as opposed to an emotional or physical one. It's about changing our paradigm by changing the way we think about our relationship to the feminine, whether it be in the guise of woman or planet or even just the feminine side of our selves.

The square from Neptune can also create some confusion and we must be aware of what we are feeling and intuiting about a situation. This is just the the type of aspect that those in power can use to distract us from the real issues.

Using your intuition instead of your logical brain can help you discern if what you are hearing rings true. The body, which along with the emotions are the feminine side of us (the mental and spiritual the masculine side of us) never lies. We have been conditioned to not trust it and do often we ignore it.

It behooves us to listen to our intuitions and to start trusting them. When we do, we will realize that most of the things have been taught to believe don't make sense ad generally do not bring us happiness. By trusting our own inner compass we no longer need to look outside of ourselves for answers. This will put a lot of people who like to tell us what to do, how to be, what to buy and how to live, out of business!

We truly are the architects of our won destiny, this is a sobering yet welcome through at a time when the world seems to be moving toward a precipice of no return. We've gotten ourselves into this mess and we can get ourselves out of it. Through a balance of our inner masculine and inner feminine with the center of our being, aka our heart, we can create a world based on love and not fear. for we create what vibrate and it's time to make the conscious
choice to vibrate unity and love. Our lives and the life of the planet depend on
it.

New Moon in Taurus: Getting Down to Basics

Each month the Sun and the Moon meet up. This conjunction is called the New Moon and it the starting point of the lunation cycle (the geometrical relationship between the Sun and Moon along the 360 degree circle.) New Moons are always seed times, the moment when we can seed our intention for the upcoming month. Twice a year the New Moon will also be a solar eclipse. This is when the Sun, Moon and Earth all line up in such a way that the Moon can obscure the Sun (in the case of a solar eclipse) or the Earth sits between the Moon and Sun and the Moon blotted out from the sky (in the case of the lunar eclipse.) To further complicate matters, the eclipse can either be a North Node eclipse or a South Node Eclipse. This depends on where the transiting nodes of the Moon are. (Eclipses can only occur within 16 degrees of the nodes.)

The Nodes of the Moon, points in space where the orbit of the Moon around the Earth and the orbit of the Earth around the Sun intersect. Like everything in the heavens these points move through a pair of signs which are always 180 degrees from each other. The nodes take approximately 19 months to move through a pair of signs.

In August of 2012 the transiting (moving) nodes of the Moon moved into Scorpio and Taurus, the North Node in Scorpio and the South Node in Taurus. The North Node of the Moon indicates the way forward, the direction of our collective evolution. In Scorpio we are being asked to move towards relating to others on an emotional level, to be willing to change and transform and to examine our own shadow, among other things.

The South Node is the point of release, what we are being required to let go of so that we can evolve. With the South Node in Taurus we are being asked to release those emotional attachments that keep us stuck in inertia. To get out of our comfort zone, to let go of the relationships we have to people, places, and things that keep us imprisoned.

This New Moon Solar Eclipse is a South Node Eclipse and asks us to let go of whatever it is that keeps us from letting go. Taurus is the sign of survival so the letting go that is required can feel like life and death. "If I let go of this _____ (fill in the blank), I will die.

The Nodes of the Moon deal with our emotions and our sense of self-image. This is our personality, the persona we define ourselves by. This makes it difficult to let go. It's like the the old saying "it's better to stay with the devil you know, than the devil you don't." Yet our Soul, the eternal and immutable part of our self, pushes on the personality, which is an transitory emotional/mental construct, to evolve. That is why on a very basic level we cannot ever seem to be satisfied with what we have, what we are, and will often no matter how much we feel we are where we want to be, will put a fly in our own ointment.

This New Moon/Solar Eclipse has the majority the personal planets, Mars, Mercury, Sun and Moon in Taurus. Only Venus is in another sign, the sign of Gemini. This is important, because the ruler of Taurus is Venus so Venus is a powerful player in this eclipse.

Venus is the sign of the feminine, the yin to the yang of Mars. In Gemini we are dealing with ideas and on a certain level what we are being required to let go of are our ideas. It may feel like we are being asked to let of of much more than that, but in truth our mental point of view goes a long way to creating our world. In recent days, here in the United States, we had the freeing of three young woman who had been kidnapped and used as sexual slaves by
three middle aged brothers. They had been imprisoned in a run down house in Cleveland for a decade. This is a very concrete example of being released from the chains that bound them. The fact that they were women (Venus) and taken as children (Gemini) furthers the synchronicity. A deep examination of how we treat our children, especially our female children is a needed. As is much healing for those brave young souls who survived such brutality. Aren't we better than this?

Since the Nodes moved into Scorpio/Taurus followed by Saturn, the planet of reality, moving into the sign of the shadow, Scorpio, we have been facing our shadow in very real ways. And it seems to this astrologer that it our children that are being spotlighted. The Newtown shooting of elementary school children and their caretakers by a mentally disturbed teen, the Boston Marathon bombings by two young men and now the young women in Cleveland. Survival depends on our children. To make the world a safe and viable place for them, is the path we must tread. Yet how can we ask them to love and not bully each other when everywhere they look adults are hurting each other and exploiting and poisoning the planet where these children are expected to live?

Let's give these kids a chance by being examples of loving kindness and responsible stewardship. This truly is a life and death moment so let's choose life.

Spring Equinox: Balance in the Midst of Transformation

Astrology is the study of Natural Law. The connection between what happens in the heavens and the resultant shifts that occur within the arena of human endeavor. Through the practice of observation correlation, the energy formed by the interaction of planets stars and sensitive points along the elliptic create an admixture of energy that the seasoned astrologer attempts to delineate. More than a tool of prediction, which it has been for thousands of years, the true magic of astrology is the awareness of nature of the energy surrounding and within us. Cluing us into the waxing and waning cycle of becoming and letting go.

Collectively we have been reacting to and hopefully processing great shifts of transformational energy. There are many energetic patterns that have brought us to this point. Of all the interactions between heavenly bodies, the waxing square between Pluto the Planet of Transmutation and Uranus the Planet of Transformation is the major engine of change. Awaking with us the need to build structures within society that will work for the realizations born in the radical 60’s. Yet while the major bass note of change, not the only planetary energy creating the song of change that is sweeping across the world.

The spring equinox in the Northern Hemisphere (Fall Equinox in the Southern Hemisphere), that occurs on March 20, 2013, is a study in just how complex the energy can become. Yet what strikes this astrologer the most, is the connected-ness of all the planets and the asteroid Chiron in this chart. For the astrologers in the crowd, the Equinox chart contains 2 interconnected Yods, one Grand Water Trine and a Cardinal T-square. For the rest of the readers, these are planetary patterns that point to significant shifts in energy, frustrations and available power.

The Equinox is the point of balance when night and day are of equal length. Within that energy of that moment lies the theme on how to foster that balance. In order to see how that is possible we need to look at the energetic patterns within the chart.

The grand water trine consists of the Moon in Cancer, Saturn in Scorpio, and Chiron and Mercury in Pisces. Trines are powerful aspects yet unless we consciously access the energy, we can loose out on a golden opportunity. This trine allows us to access our emotional nature, especially that which has been wounded. It is through our wounds that we react to situations. Without conscious awareness of the nature of those wounds, we are bound to repeat the pattern that continues to wound us. With Chiron in Pisces and Saturn in Scorpio, sexual wounding especially as children (Moon in Cancer) is very close to the surface. Many Catholics are dealing with these issues as the depth of the abuse of power and institutional secrecy surrounding the sexual abuse scandal in the church comes to light.

The grand trine is connected to the cardinal t-square through the Cancer Moon. A very sensitive and powerful placement for the Moon. The Moon is opposite Pluto in Capricorn, awareness of power and powerlessness as well as the awareness of the abuses of power by those in charge and the wounding that it causes. This can be seen personally and collectively. In a mundane chart the Moon symbolizes the people. And the people are very concerned with issues of survival, food, clothing, shelter and the safety of their children. We can see this on the extreme end when we bear witness to the plight of the Syrian people as they attempt to break free from their current repressive régime.

The last point of this cardinal t-square is the planets that square both the Moon and Pluto. This is the energy that breaks the standoff energy of the Moon/Pluto opposition. Mars and Uranus, both in Aries are at the head of this t-square. The energy of initiation and the energy of radical change ignites in an often explosive combination. The drive to be free to be who we were born to be, free of societal constraints is very much the vibe. Yet we must look to the open end of the t-square for guidance in these matters. The open end of this t-square is Libra the sign of fairness and balance. So ultimately the driving force of this configuration is equality and fairness and not merely wanton destruction.

Lastly we look at the 2 interconnected yods. Yods are aspects of adjustment. Despite the explosive energy of the cardinal t-square and the ease of accessing our wounded-ness via the grand trine, ‘blowing the whole thing up’ is not the way through this time. The Yods, also called the Finger of God or the Fickle Finger of Fate points to the need to make incremental changes. We will need to make consistent effort as we exercise discernment and make sacrifices. We are being required to look realistically at the resources available to us and stop acting from an unconscious place and wake up to the truth. We must realize we are all in this together and unless we begin to examine the wounds that create separation our survival is doubtful.

Whether they know it or not, the powers that be, who base their power on the few controlling the many, no matter how the many suffer, will fall. For the truth is that each soul matters, We are witnessing the rise of the feminine, as our female/emotional/intuitive nature stands toe to toe with our male/ linear/logical mind. This is the promise of balance the equinox holds. Self empowerment through balancing of our male and female sides.

We stand at the crossroads with the power to destroy ourselves or save ourselves. It is our responsibility and our choice.
