New Moon in Sagittarius: What do I Believe?

On Saturday, November 22nd the Sun moves into the sign of Sagittarius and within 3 hours the Moon enters Sagittarius and conjoins the Sun. This is the New Moon in Sagittarius. Sagittarius is the archetype of belief, belief systems, what we see as true It is also connected to natural law, or the law of nature. Sagittarius rules the wild places, tribal societies, higher education and the Higher Mind.

The New Moon occurs at 1 degree of Sagittarius, so right at the beginning of the sign. Along the trajectory of the zodiac signs, Sagittarius comes after Scorpio. In Scorpio we experience ourselves at the deepest emotional levels possible. We can connect with our deepest fears and secrets and face our shadow, those disowned parts of ourselves that we can’t bear to recognize as coming from ourselves. Often the Shadow, if unclaimed, is projected onto another. This shadow projections attract into our lives some of the most painful experiences we have. So as we move into the next sign, Sagittarius we are still pretty raw, the healing has begun, yet is not done. In Sagittarius we look for meaning, and that meaning comes from the experience of our suffering in Scorpio.

Sagittarius is an optimistic sign, yet who wouldn’t be if they had just seen the light at the end of the Scorpio tunnel and are alive to talk about it. So we can feel a lightening of the energy once any planet moves from Scorpio to Sagittarius. This New Moon portends what we will be working through as the Sun Moves through Sagittarius from now until Winter Solstice when the Sun moves into Capricorn and perhaps more importantly a foreshadowing of Saturn’s ingress into Sagittarius that begins on December 23rd.

The chart for this New Moon has the Sun and Moon conjoin Saturn in Scorpio on the back end of the Sun/Moon conjunction and also conjoin Venus in Sagittarius on the front end. Venus moving ahead of the Sun/ Moon confers a sense of wanting to experience new relationships that will broaden our perspective on life. Yet with Saturn on the back end, still in Scorpio we will still be holding on to at least some emotional baggage. It is up to us to unpack that baggage. If we can unpack before Saturn moves into Sagittarius then we are ahead of the game. Yet if we can’t we will have one last opportunity to do so between June 14th – September 17th 2015 when Saturn dips one last time into the last 2 degrees of Scorpio, before it leaves the sign of Scorpio, not to be seen again until 2041. The more unpacking the better, procrastinators take note!
The Sun/Moon is also square Neptune in Pisces. This is a last quarter crisis in the way we think square. A shift in consciousness is on the horizon around what we believe to be true. Because this is a last quarter square we will be finding ourselves questioning authority and the status quo. As the sign of Belief, Sagittarius has ruler-ship over man-made religions. Neptune in Pisces is the planet of Unity in the sign of Source Energy and direct connection to Spirit. We will all be going through some sort of spiritual crisis as our beliefs are challenged. And this will continue for the 2 ½ years while Saturn is in Sagittarius. In fact in November of 2015, Saturn in Sagittarius will be in a last quarter square to Neptune in Pisces. This aspect is in and out of exactitude from the end of 2015 and well into 2016.

We are now in the New Paradigm, we are truly making it up as we go. This New Moon asks us to move towards a philosophy of life that is based on Natural Law. A philosophy that foster life, not death. We are on the precipice, and what we do next will determine if we survive and thrive or pass into nothingness. We’ve given fear and loathing plenty of time, why not give loving kindness a try. We’ll all be better for it.
