Full Moon in Gemini: Are we really different?

On December 6th we have a Full Moon in the sign of Gemini. This is the fruition of seeds planted back on November 22nd when we had a New Moon in the first degree of Sagittarius. Full Mon's are times of awareness, what the nature of that awareness is depends on the axis that is being stimulated by the Full Moon. The Sagittarius/Gemini axis is the Axis of the Mind. Gemini deals with the more logical left brain while Sagittarius deals with the more creative and intuitive right brain. How we think, what we believe to be true is highlighted at this time.

If we look around us we can see many examples of what people believe to be true. Just surf the web, turn on the TV or walk through a major US city. We are in a very high energy time where issues of social justice (Sagittarius) come up against the idea that we are different from each other (Gemini).

The Full Moon axis is being energized by two distinct energies. Uranus, the planet of sudden out of nowhere change in freedom loving Aries is making supportive connections to both the Sun and Moon. The hunger for things to change is great and with Uranus supporting the Sun and Moon it would seem that this is a perfect time for things to move in positive direction. But what a 'positive direction" means is up for interpretation. The Moon which deals with how we habitually react and respond to life is in the sign of duality. Gemini can be very black and white (pun, not necessarily intended), so one person's 'positive' direction can very easily be diametrically opposed to another's 'positive' direction. And the opposition between the Sun and Moon is really more about seeing things from the most objective place possible, and doesn't necessarily connote movement on this issue.

In order for movement to happen there needs to be a third energy that tips the scales. This is the other distinct energy working upon this Full Moon axis. Chiron in Pisces which is in a square both the Sun in Sagittarius and the Moon in Gemini. Chiron is the archetype of the the wound that will not heal. In Pisces the wound is one of separation from Source. This deep seeded abandonment is within each and every one of us, and can fuel feelings of being unwanted, less than and a victim of our circumstances.

Pisces is the sign of Source energy and holds within the Power of Transcendence. On the New Moon of November 22nd Neptune which is also in Pisces was square the New Moon, fueling a spiritual crisis that require us to look at what we believe to be true. Neptune dissolves the boundaries that keep us separate, Chiron points to the wounds created by that sense of separation. In transcending that sense of separation we come to understand that we are all one, and what is done to the least of us, or to the greatest of us, is done to all of us. In hurting others we are simply hurting ourselves. This realization can put a lot of holes in the "us vs them" paradigm that is perpetrated by those who want to keep us in the dark.

We are waking up, folks, and just in time! Look to see what thoughts and habit patterns keep you stuck in suffering, in a sense of victimization or a sense of isolation and transcend it. Connect to the source of all things and take a swim in the healing waters of the Great Cosmic Sea!

New Moon in Sagittarius: What do I Believe?

On Saturday, November 22nd the Sun moves into the sign of Sagittarius and within 3 hours the Moon enters Sagittarius and conjoins the Sun. This is the New Moon in Sagittarius. Sagittarius is the archetype of belief, belief systems, what we see as true It is also connected to natural law, or the law of nature. Sagittarius rules the wild places, tribal societies, higher education and the Higher Mind.

The New Moon occurs at 1 degree of Sagittarius, so right at the beginning of the sign. Along the trajectory of the zodiac signs, Sagittarius comes after Scorpio. In Scorpio we experience ourselves at the deepest emotional levels possible. We can connect with our deepest fears and secrets and face our shadow, those disowned parts of ourselves that we can’t bear to recognize as coming from ourselves. Often the Shadow, if unclaimed, is projected onto another. This shadow projections attract into our lives some of the most painful experiences we have. So as we move into the next sign, Sagittarius we are still pretty raw, the healing has begun, yet is not done. In Sagittarius we look for meaning, and that meaning comes from the experience of our suffering in Scorpio.

Sagittarius is an optimistic sign, yet who wouldn’t be if they had just seen the light at the end of the Scorpio tunnel and are alive to talk about it. So we can feel a lightening of the energy once any planet moves from Scorpio to Sagittarius. This New Moon portends what we will be working through as the Sun Moves through Sagittarius from now until Winter Solstice when the Sun moves into Capricorn and perhaps more importantly a foreshadowing of Saturn’s ingress into Sagittarius that begins on December 23rd.

The chart for this New Moon has the Sun and Moon conjoin Saturn in Scorpio on the back end of the Sun/Moon conjunction and also conjoin Venus in Sagittarius on the front end. Venus moving ahead of the Sun/ Moon confers a sense of wanting to experience new relationships that will broaden our perspective on life. Yet with Saturn on the back end, still in Scorpio we will still be holding on to at least some emotional baggage. It is up to us to unpack that baggage. If we can unpack before Saturn moves into Sagittarius then we are ahead of the game. Yet if we can’t we will have one last opportunity to do so between June 14th - September 17th 2015 when Saturn dips one last time into the last 2 degrees of Scorpio, before it leaves the sign of Scorpio, not to be seen again until 2041. The more unpacking the better, procrastinators take note!
The Sun/Moon is also square Neptune in Pisces. This is a last quarter crisis in the way we think square. A shift in consciousness is on the horizon around what we believe to be true. Because this is a last quarter square we will be finding ourselves questioning authority and the status quo. As the sign of Belief, Sagittarius has ruler-ship over man-made religions. Neptune in Pisces is the planet of Unity in the sign of Source Energy and direct connection to Spirit. We will all be going through some sort of spiritual crisis as our beliefs are challenged. And this will continue for the 2 ½ years while Saturn is in Sagittarius. In fact in November of 2015, Saturn in Sagittarius will be in a last quarter square to Neptune in Pisces. This aspect is in and out of exactitude from the end of 2015 and well into 2016.

We are now in the New Paradigm, we are truly making it up as we go. This New Moon asks us to move towards a philosophy of life that is based on Natural Law. A philosophy that foster life, not death. We are on the precipice, and what we do next will determine if we survive and thrive or pass into nothingness. We’ve given fear and loathing plenty of time, why not give loving kindness a try. We’ll all be better for it.

November 07th, 2014

The Full Moon of November was a Full Moon in the sign of Taurus. Generally I write something days or even weeks before an event and share my understanding of the astrological cycles with those who follow me. This Full Moon however, eluded me. It wasn't until the Moon was actually full, that it communicated with me. So this article is less technical and more experiential. I hope no one minds.

On the night of the Full Moon I had a Guided Meditation group at my Center. I called it a Full Moon in Taurus Guided Meditation Class. As a rule I don't plan what I'm going to say or where we are going to go. I talk to the participants, get a feel for what has been coming up for them and open to my guides who guide me and in turn I take my 'peeps' on the journey with me.

We did some slow deep breathing and pictured the Full Moon high in the sky with her soft luminescent rays bathing us in an ethereal glow. We filled ourselves with her light connecting with both the Galactic Center and the core of our Mother Earth. Once the circuit was made (my guides' words, not mine) we were 'taken' to the top of the Himalayas where the moonlight shone on those sacred mountains. Then my guides spoke through me saying:

'You are the ancient of ancients, you're connection to this earth is very old.' These words were spoken slow and deliberately and as I uttered them to the group, I was filled with such a sense of fullness, my eyes filled up with tears. I felt between myself and the earth a deep abiding love that was so awesome I could barely breath to speak it.

Then in my mind's eye I was shown a eye a giant Vesica Pisces the center of which was filled with stars. It was the birth canal we have taken into manifestation. I could sense the strength of the Mother, the strength of the Feminine and the Timelessness of it all. It struck me in that moment just how wounded the feminine is at this time. How instead of celebrating the miracle of birth, the wisdom of the earth, and the unconditional love Mother Earth has for us, we defile her and her daughters. Making being female dangerous, less than and sinful. I realized the insanity of our modern day, that instead of celebrating the gift of life, we were trying our best to destroy it. All this coming to me in a moment.

Now I admit I am a student of Women's psychology, Feminist literature and a born-again pagan, yet it wasn't until this particular meditation that it penetrated into my bones. Before it was a mental exercise, a search for meaning, in a world that seemed to have forgotten something. It is no longer a theory, but a visceral and cellular connection that goes to the depth of my own issues of self-worth.

The Full Moon in Taurus is a time of awareness, with the Moon in Taurus and the Sun in Scorpio the axis of Life and Death is activated. This Full Moon occurred at the 15th degree of the fixed signs Taurus and Scorpio. This is the most fixed point of the fixed signs, this is our connection to Earth and corresponds with the cross quarter days of Beltane and Samhain in the Pagan Calender. This New Moon illuminates us to the facts that we are responsible for the situation we find ourselves in by devaluing the feminine. It's no coincidence that in the areas where women are the least equal, we see the most pain, suffering and violence.

This Full Moon also brings awareness of our resources and our shared resources and the unfairness that ownership breeds. We have an erroneous idea that we can 'own' land, when we are simply the caretakers of the land. And frankly we are doing a terrible job of it as a culture. Ecological catastrophe is only decades away, if we continue on the trajectory to are on. The earth will survive, we however will not. And you might think that Mother Earth would be happy to be rid of us, yet I can tell you from the core of my being that Mother Earth loves All her children, even us. Isn't it time to love ourselves enough to make the choices that support life, instead of annihilation?

New Moon Solar Eclipse in Scorpio: Flowing with the River of Change

At the New Moon the Sun and Moon occupy the same degree of the zodiac. We are at a time of new beginnings around the issues of the particular sign. On Thursday, October 23rd, the New Moon is at 1 degree of Scorpio. Scorpio is a deep and complex archetype that deals with the parts of ourselves that are often hidden from view.

It is in Scorpio that we face forces greater than ourselves. This is seen in Scorpio’s ruler-ship of death. No one, whether you be the most powerful person on the planet, or a beggar on the street, escapes the great equalizer known as death. Scorpio also is associated with rebirth, rising out of the ashes of what your life was, to a new, less encumbered and deeper, more soulful way of living. Having gone through the proverbial ‘hell fires’, you rise up to the heights, gaining perspective and another chance at life.

Scorpio also deals with sharing. Sharing of resources, both emotional and physical, sharing of bodily fluids, and sharing of energy. In Libra we become aware of the other, but it is in Scorpio that we merge with the other.

This New Moon is also conjoined Venus, also at 1 degree of Scorpio. Venus is the feminine principle, magnetic, beautiful, sensual. Venus is a planet of relationship; relationship to yourself and your relationship to others. When looking at a person’s natal chart any planet found in Scorpio, will undergo a total transformation in that life. So this New Moon heralds the beginning of that kind of transformation for the collective, in the way we identify ourselves, the way we react and respond to life and in what we value.

To add an extra dose of intensity to an already, intensity ridden New Moon, this New Moon is also a solar eclipse. Eclipses are times when we have access to higher vibrational energies. As the Sun Moon and Earth align, the magnetic field is rebooted, almost like a computer that is shut down and then turned on again. Historically these types of eclipses are associated with a change in the power structure. A king, or great statesman passes and a new era begins.

We can apply this idea to ourselves, as our old sensibilities around authority passes away and a new era begins. What will that new era look like for you? Where this New Moon falls in your natal chart will determine what area of life is effected for each individual.

This is also a North Node eclipse, as opposed to the eclipses of this past April which were eclipses of the South Node. Back in April we were required to let go of any baggage that we were holding onto. This month’s eclipse cycle is about stepping out into the unknown future. About doing things in a different way, about applying all you have learned over the last few years and bravely stepping forward.

Scorpio can be a scary specter, yet letting go of fear is exactly what is being required here. A leap of faith is needed and a trust that all is as it need be. If you find yourself in an untenable situation, it just may mean that this is exactly how much ‘untenable’ you needed to change direction. It is different for each person.

As the end of the year approaches and the 6th of the 7 exact Pluto /Uranus squares gets ready to inundate us with yet another wave of transformation, know it is time to let go of the shore and let the river of change take you on the journey of your Soul. There in the middle of that river you will find other intrepid souls, be grateful and open and enjoy the ride together!

Full Moon Lunar Eclipse in Aries: Loving is Better than Doing!

On Wednesday, October 8th eclipse season begins. Eclipses occur exactly 6 months apart, our last series of eclipses happened in April of 2014. Eclipses can only happen when the Sun, Earth and Moon are lined up in the sky. This happens at the nodes of the Moon, the point in space where the ecliptic, the path of the Earth around the Sun crosses with the orbit of the Moon around the earth. This point has been always considered an important and powerful point, despite the fact that it has no mass.

There are two nodes of the Moon and therefore there are two eclipse seasons every year. Eclipses can occur and the South node of the Moon, where the Moon moves south of the ecliptic, or the North Node of the Moon, where the Moon moves north of the ecliptic. The South Node, also called the Dragon’s Tail is where we let go of things that we no longer need because they don’t serve our evolution. The North Node, or Dragon’s Mouth is where we take in new experiences, digest them and move towards evolution.

The eclipse of October 8th is a North Node Eclipse (with The Sun conjoined the North Node of the Moon in Libra).

Full Moon’s are times of awareness, the peak of objectivity. Full Moon’s offer us perspective. With the Sun and Venus and the North Node of the Moon in Libra, cooperation, fairness, working together as equals, mutual respect and affection is highlighted. On the other end of the we have the Moon, Uranus and the South Node in Aries. The Moon is how we react and respond to life. In Aries it is how we react and respond to life on a instinctual level. Having Uranus, the planet of sudden out of no where upsets conjoin the Moon and the South Node, there is a wild card in the mix. The energy of Aries is that of the warrior, action oriented, aggressive, driven by the need to become.

Because the energy of Aries is so primal it is easy to slip into fight or flight mode, when Aries feels insecure or feels as if they are being threatened they generally strike first, and strike hard without premeditation. One way to get the Aries energy to react is to drum up the fear. Yet with this being a full moon we can actually get perspective on this manner of manipulating our most basic urges.

The axis of this Full Moon is being squared by the planet Pluto in Capricorn. Pluto in Capricorn is symbolic of the Powered Few, the 1%, in cultural terms. Squares create crisis and bring movement to the opposition of the Sun and Moon, which on it’s own is more about awareness and balance and not about movement. The manipulation of the powerful by purposely stimulating our survival instinct is very evident in this chart and very evident in the view of the world we are fed via media outlets. Not to say that it’s not a dangerous world, for it very well can be. When people are fearful, they do things they would never consider doing in a more balanced and peaceful environment.

The square of Pluto to the Sun/Moon/Eclipse axis requires us to foster a sense of personal emotional security. To come to the understanding that we are part of a greater family and that the ‘us versus them’ strategy of the last 4-6 thousand years is no longer a viable one if we chose to survive and thrive on this Earth. Being in harmony with each other and with the planet is our only real hope.

This may seem like an insurmountable task, how on earth can we do this when everything seems to be spinning out of control?

Well in comes the wildcard Uranus. Uranus is an energy we cannot control or even prepare for, even on a good day. Uranus is an explosive, unpredictable energy, connected to this Full Moon Lunar Eclipse and to a Grand Fire Trine that is also part of the Eclipse picture. Grand Fire Trines are highly creative, and highly
transformational. The Planets that are part of this trine are Uranus in Aries, Jupiter in Leo, and Mars in Sagittarius. Fire is symbolic of Spirit and of our Intuitive Function, meaning spirit is talking to us and if we use our intuition we can hear it. We have the opportunity to tap into direct contact with spirit at this time.

Because eclipses are so unpredictable and because Uranus, the most unpredictable planet is part of the eclipse picture, there is not much we can ’do’ during this time, actions can take on totally unforeseen consequences, no matter how certain that what you are doing is right. So what do we do?.

The ruling planet of this eclipse is Venus, The planet of Love. Venus is in Libra, a sign in which she is both very comfortable and very powerful. Venus is also conjoined the North Node, and this being a North Node eclipse season, she points to the direction of our collective evolution. Simply put, Venus reminds us to love one another. So it’s not so much about doing at this time, it’s about loving. So open your hearts to each other and tap into the great transformational energy available to us and miracles will happen!

New Moon in Libra: The Choice is Ours

Because the New Moon in Libra occurs two days after the Fall Equinox on September 24th, the charts are very similar, save for the position of the Moon. So the points made in the Fall Equinox article also apply to this chart, except for the fact that the New Moon is a time of beginnings.

The Degree of this New Moon 2 degrees of Libra has an interesting image associated with it. There is a system of symbols called The Sabian Symbols, in which each degree of the zodiac has a specific image. It is not the only system of symbols, yet it is the most popular and has in the past has proven quite prophetic.

The symbol for 2 degrees of Libra is as follows: “The Light of the Sixth Race Transmuted to the Seventh”. This symbol is at first confusing, and obscure yet even without having studied any of the Esoteric Wisdom literature we can sense that we are moving up some sort of ‘level’. In more current terms we could call it vibrating at a higher level or Ascension.

The breakthrough to higher levels of consciousness occurs in the pattern of concentric circles. Our experiences in life become the basis of our reality until something happens to shake us and we are propelled to a higher or larger circle. The process of breakthrough can be painful, confusing, scary & disorienting. In each moment we have the choice of how and if to proceed. Once in a larger or higher circle we have both perspective on our previous circle (what our life was) yet no real idea of where we are at. We have yet to figure out how to be or move through this higher reality.

As a planet we have been going through numerous shifts in our reality. Astrologically we connect this to the interaction between Uranus and Pluto, along with Neptune, the Great Dissolver being in Pisces, the sign of Unity Consciousness. The combination of these Transpersonal (beyond the personal) planetary activity has shaken the very foundations of our world, leaving us somewhat adrift and searching for answers.

There is a higher order to the Universe, seen in Natural Law, or the Law of Nature. As above, so below; as you sow, so shall you reap; everything in balance. To quote just a few. It is Natural Law that we need to access to figure out our next step. Living in alignment with the planet, instead of the idea of dominion over the planet. This is the idea of Immanence versus Power Over. A great book that talks about this very thing is Starhawk’s seminal work Dreaming the Dark for anyone interested.

We are surely at a tipping point in our evolution. Interesting that the symbol for Libra is the Scales. In Egyptian mythology it is the Goddess Maat that holds the scales on ‘Judgment Day’ and measures a person’s heart against a feather. Is your heart heavy with guilt, sadness, anger, hate, regret? How would your heart measure up?

We have the power to change our world and that power is within each of us and the name of that power is Love. Jesus tried to tell us before the powers-that-be usurped his message to keep their dominion. Yet in truth, they couldn’t have taken the power unless we let them, or we where unaware that there was a choice. Well the scales are falling from our eyes people. Now we have no one to blame, we are ‘growing up’ on all levels, spiritually, emotionally, mentally and physically and it is our world to make. Choose well.
